SERVICES

Specialist ear care. Designed exclusively for the care industry. Providing otoscopy and microsuction wax removal services on-site, using Tympa Health equipment and training, to care groups via fixed term service contracts.

Otoscopy

Quick, Painless, non-invasive!

Otoscopy is a simple, non-invasive examination of the ear canal and eardrum using a specialist digital otoscope.

This allows us to clearly assess the condition of the ear, identify ear wax build-up, and check for any visible abnormalities that may require further medical attention. Using advanced digital technology via the TympaHealth platform, we are also able to capture clear images of the ear canal during the assessment.

These images can be shared with care staff or family members to help explain findings in a clear and transparent way. Visual feedback is particularly helpful in understanding the impact of wax build-up and seeing the improvement following treatment.

Otoscopy forms the essential first step in ensuring that any ear care provided is appropriate and tailored to the individual resident’s needs.

Ear Wax Microsuction

Safe and effective

Microsuction is a safe and effective method of removing excess ear wax using gentle suction under direct visual guidance.

Unlike traditional irrigation methods, microsuction does not involve flushing the ear with water. Instead, wax is carefully removed using precise equipment while the ear canal is continuously visualised. This allows for greater accuracy, improved comfort, and a reduced risk of complications.

Microsuction is widely recognised as the NHS gold-standard method for ear wax removal and is supported by guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Ear wax build-up can cause:

  • Reduced Hearing

  • Discomfort or a feeling of fullness

  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

  • Balance disturbance

  • Increased confusion or withdrawal in vulnerable individuals

For many residents, removing excess wax can lead to immediate improvement in hearing clarity and communication.

Hearing Assessment

Sound Screening

Following ear examination and, where appropriate, wax removal, we can carry out a digital hearing check using the Tympa Platform.

The Tympa system utilises a 4-frequency hearing screening, with headphones tested at 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, and 4kHz. These frequencies are particularly important for understanding speech and everyday communication.

This screening provides a clear indication of how well a resident is hearing at different sound levels and may help identify whether further audiology referral would be beneficial.

Early identification of hearing changes allows care teams and families to make informed decisions about additional support, hearing aids, or specialist services where necessary.

Remote Clinical Review Pathway

Cutting-Edge Technology

As part of our partnership with Tympa Health, we have access to a remote clinical referral system.

If, during otoscopy, we identify findings that require further specialist review (such as abnormalities of the ear canal or eardrum), secure images can be submitted through the Tympa Platform for assessment by qualified ENT specialists.
